Princess Lala Phinisi
Is Princess Lala the right boat if you travel alone?
Updated 11 October 2026
Yes, if you like a shared table. One traveller can join the open trip, which leaves every Monday & Friday, and every meal is eaten at the long table with the other guests. If you want a cabin and a boat to yourself, this is not that trip, and a private charter is priced for a group.
Who you meet at the long table
You will not eat alone, which is the first thing a person travelling by themselves wants to know. An open trip carries the guests of every cabin, a local guide, a photographer and the crew, and every meal is eaten at one long table indoors, with tea and coffee set out at its end. The open-air table at the stern, under its timber roof, is the second place to sit.
That is how strangers become a table. Nobody organises it. You pass the sambal, which comes in its stone mortar, someone asks where you flew from, and the talk goes on from there.
Between meals you can be as sociable as you like. The bow sundeck has bean bags on green turf, the shaded side deck has two canvas deck chairs, and your cabin is air-conditioned, with a sea-view window.
Who this boat suits, and who it does not
She suits a traveller who is glad to share meals, walks and a boat with strangers, who does not mind that a cabin is built for two or three, and who can live with Wi-Fi that works where a phone works and drops between islands. Cabin 3 is the one that makes the sum small for one person, and it asks you to share a bathroom outside the cabin.
She does not suit someone who wants a cabin to themselves at a fixed single price, because we publish no single supplement; you write to us with your date and we answer for it. Nor does she suit someone who needs a steady signal for calls, or a table to eat at alone. A private charter of the whole boat, from IDR 31,750,000 (≈ USD 1,948), is a sum for a group, not for one.
Fares, cabins, what to pack and the safety kit are set out on the travelling-solo page.
Two days, or three, on your own
Both fares make the same stops on days one and two: Kelor, Manjarite, Strawberry Rock if the sea is kind and the sunset off Kalong on day one, then Padar, the dragons of Komodo, Pink Beach, Manta Point and the sandbar on day two. Two-day guests go ashore on the evening of day two, between 19:00 and 20:30, and dinner that night is for the three-day guests. The three-day fare adds a second night, one more breakfast and a morning at Kanawa, and for one person it adds a slower last morning with nobody waiting for you to finish a swim.
If your calendar is tight, the two-day fare is still a full trip: day two alone holds a ridge walk, the dragons, two swims and the manta drift. If you can spare the time, we would take the extra day. Pick a Monday or a Friday, and write to us with the date and the cabin you have in mind. The next sailings are listed below.
Fixed dates, every Monday and Friday. A date is confirmed when we reply to you.
FAQ
Will I eat on my own?
No. Every meal is at the long table in the dining room or at the open-air table at the stern, and the open trip carries the guests of every cabin plus the guide and photographer. We cannot tell you who will be on your sailing, only that you will all sit down to the same dinner.
Is the two-day trip enough for one person?
It makes the same stops as the three-day trip on days one and two, ridge walk and dragons included. You give up the second night, the last breakfast and the morning at Kanawa, and you go ashore between 19:00 and 20:30 on day two, so plan a hotel night in Labuan Bajo before you fly.
When is a private charter better for someone alone?
When the point of the trip is to have the boat to yourself. A charter is priced for the whole boat from IDR 31,750,000 (≈ USD 1,948), so it makes sense for a group that you gather, not for one guest. For one traveller who likes company, the open trip is the sensible booking.
Will there be other people travelling alone?
We cannot say for your sailing. Guests come as couples, families, friends and singles, and all of them eat together. Tell us your date and we write back with which cabins are open.
